The UPM was founded in 1971 thought most of its faculties and centers have there origins in the 18th and 19th century. It was founded, merging different technical schools into one public organization. Schools of humanistic and experimental sciences have, at the same time, been assigned to a different already existing university, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Among the oldest centers of the university are architecture, naval science and mining, dating back till 1752, 1777 and 1772 respectively. One of the most recent centers instead is the faculty for computer science which was founded or more precisely integrated with the UPM 1977 and finally moved to its current location in 1988. The most recent establishment though is the center for topography, geodesy and cartography founded in 2005. More details on UPM’s history can be found on the official website here or at the Spanish Wikipedia website here.
